Wie GameWatch berichtet, erhalten Vorbesteller und Käufer der japanischen Erstauflage von Final Fantasy Explorers neben dem Outfit des Zwiebelritters (siehe hier) auch einen Download-Code für Final Fantasy I, das 3D-fähig sein soll. Square Enix hat sich dafür entschieden, da FF Explorers am 18. Dezember 2014 für 3DS erscheint, denn auf den Tag genau vor 17 Jahren erschien das erste Final Fantasy für NES. Wer FF Explorer nicht erstehen möchte, kann sich im Januar 2015 Final Fantasy I für 3DS separat im Nintendo eShop kaufen.

Zudem wird eine kostenlose Demo mit dem Titel "FINAL FANTASY EXPLORERS Light" erscheinen, in der man einen Anfangsabschnitt spielen und sich an den Singleplayer- (lokal) und Multiplayer-Modi (benötigt Internet) versuchen kann. Ein Veröffentlichungsdatum dafür steht noch aus.
